Trans Power! Queer Power! The Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are honored to once-again lead the organizing of a Trans Week of Resistance. Building on our community’s powerful Trans Week of Resistance last year, we offer a week in which the truths of our grief and our joy are honored and we can experience togetherness. Community power, hope, and networks of resistance are more important now than ever. Regardless of anything, our community will survive and protect and care for itself.

“We must show up and be there for each other and the most vulnerable amongst us. Community does for itself. To rely on institutions/the state to have our backs or give in to hopelessness is to surrender our power and betray our trans-cestors whose grassroots resistance and community building led us to the now,” Sister Gaia T of the Revolting Earth.

Speed Friending at the Siren’s Song Tavern (325 2nd St, Eureka), will happen Sunday November 17th at 3:30 pm. This event is for gender-diverse people to meet, make new friends, and build community. Participants will be guided through a facilitated activity, during which they will have the opportunity to engage in conversation with a new person every five minutes. Conversation starters, hands-on activities, and participation guidelines will be provided. Following the formal speed friending, participants are encouraged to hang out and enjoy each other’s company for as long as the tavern is open! The hope is that you’ll be able to make connections with others that will be sustained throughout the rest of the week.

A community art and expression space will be held Tuesday November 19th beginning 6pm at the Arcata Playhouse (1251 9th St, Arcata, CA). Entitled “True Colors of Resistance”, community members will have the opportunity to socialize and create art. Various mediums and supplies will be provided. One might take the opportunity to create a sign or decorate a provided prayer candle for Wednesday, or perhaps decorate a little flag for their bicycle, helmet, wheelchair, or other mobility device(s) for Friday, or create something to display at the show on the 24th!

Trans Day of Remembrance will be honored Wednesday November 20th beginning at 6pm on the Arcata Plaza. The Eureka Sisters will perform our “TRANScending the Veil” Ritual, providing space for members of our community to recognize those they have lost and then, as a community, read the list of names from the international database. It is requested that those with mobility and accessibility needs be given priority to use the benches and nearest cement planters to sit on. Bring a blanket, warm coat, or otherwise. Candles will be provided, but those who can bring their own are encouraged to do so. The event will end with a singalong of “Go in Peace” by Sam Baker, lead by Angel Drums D’light deSoul and accompaniment during the ritual will be provided by the Threshold Choir. Printouts of the lyrics will be available.

We will bring the spirit of Joy into the streets on Friday November 22nd beginning 6pm at the Gazebo in Old Town Eureka. Named ‘TRANSporting Joy!” this event will be hosted by Molly from Humboldt Bike Party! Comrades and community members should arrive with their bicycles, roller blades, wheelchairs, scooters, carts, and other mobility aids. We will rock music, fun lights, and safety lights and roll along a predetermined route! Printouts of the route will be available at the event, and can be requested ahead of time. The route in total will be about 7 miles, but will start at our event basecamp and regularly loop towards it so people can head back if they’re over the rolling aspect of the party. If you have a JBL speaker, please bring it as they can be synced together! You can get the link for the spotify playlist to add things or get the route ahead of time by emailing gaiat@eurekasisters.org.

A Trans Power Potluck to be held at the J-Cafe in the Jefferson Community Center (1000 B St, Eureka) beginning at 4:30 pm and going until 6 pm. Comrades and community members are encouraged to bring a dish to share to show our shared appreciation for each other. Plates, cutlery, and some serving utensils and drinks will be provided. Please ensure that you have a legible list of ingredients for each dish that you bring to ensure allergen safety—index cards and pens will be available if needed.

The week of events will end Sunday November 24th at 2:30 pm. It will see this year’s incarnation of the “Bound Bodies” poetry and art series. Entitled “Ourstory”, this event will occur at the Synapsis Union (1675 Union Street, Eureka). Artists will display related works curated by Draken Munson, and will have the opportunity to introduce their piece(s). A cadre of poets will perform selections chosen to build upon each other to weave a narrative of self-discovery, survival, joy, grief, and finding your voice after which there will be an open-mic. It is anticipated this event will end at 5pm. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.

All venues have ramp/compliant sidewalk access. This week of events is for two-spirit & trans, genderqueer, non-binary, etc. people and comrades to build community, solidarity, and power. The Eureka Sisters reserve the right to refuse anyone’s participation/attendance. We request everyone be respectful, with filming/photograph discouraged for safety purposes. Appropriate documentation/publicity will be coordinated by the Sisters and Guards.
